The Way We Are
SINCE GRADUATION Following graduating from Yorktown in 1966, I entered Virginia Tech. Midway through college, I drew a lousy number in the Draft Lottery (#37 as I recall), so I joined the Army Reserve, spent 6 years (weekends and summers) with a training unit as a Drill Sgt. My 9 months of active duty prevented me from on-time graduation...the good news was that I extended my college playtime. I met my wonderful wife, Mary Lynn at Tech, and we graduated together in 1972. I majored in American History.
CAREER I spent 15 years in the banking industry, with positions from Branch Manager to Commercial Lender. I reached the level of VP-Regional Division Manager before being merged out of a job...twice! I then spent 3 years as a Territory Manager with Paychex (Payroll), and the last 17 years as Sales & Marketing Manager with a local Accounting Firm. Mary Lynn has a private practice in Nutrition and Dietetics. FAMILY Mary Lynn and I will celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary in August 2011. We have a son Clark (34) and a daughter Lauren (31). They are both married and live in Northern VA.
INTERESTS I have played golf since I was 9 years old and continue to play as much as I can while still working. My son Clark is a 5 handicap so I have to work hard to keep up since I was never better than a 10 handicap. Mary Lynn has taken up the game also. We enjoy traveling and attend most Virginia Tech home football games, quite a few away games and Bowl games. We seem to be spending more and more time at our beach home in Pawleys Island SC throughout the year. We also do a 5-6 mile walk each weekend through the old neighborhoods in Arlington, watching familiar homes being torn down and larger ones built. We have watched the knock down and rebuilding of YHS from the beginning.
IDEA OF RELAXATION There is nothing more relaxing than a beach chair, warm sand, a light ocean breeze, friends, your favorite beverage and Carolina Beach Music!
