The Way We Are

Comments:  About a month after graduation, I went to work for Western Electric as an installer.  (Dumb mistake.  Should have gone to college.)  In Jan. of 1967 I received a letter that said GREETINGS.  Yep DRAFTED at which I exclaimed ##%&amp.  In Feb. I was sworn into the Army.  Signed up for an extra year (did not want to be a ground pounder) read infantryman.  Opted for Signal Corps.  Shipped off to Vietnam in Oct. 1967.  Damn.

Upon arriving was sent to the 1st APU for temporary duty (90 days). Read 1st Army Postal Unit.  Nice.  Army lost me.   Yep after 9 months at the 1APU, I went and ask my real unit if they wanted me back.  (I wanted to be sure I would receive orders to go home in 90 days.)  Went home and then to Fort Hood Texas.  15000 G.I.s and 15000 cows.  Pittsville.  Finally discharged in Feb. 1970 and really went home.  I was home about 30 days and tried a new thing Skateboard.  Broke ankle 3 places, 9 months in a cast.  Enrolled at the American University in D.C.  I lasted 1 and 1/2 years, ran out of money had to go to work. But I found the love of my life there.  Carol McMillen.  We were married at A.U. on May 18th 1974.  Best thing I ever did. Went to work for Simplex Time Recorder Co. 1972-1982 and learned about Fire Alarm systems.  In 1982, went to work for the United States Soldiers' and Airmen’s Home in D.C. as a fire alarm specialist.  In 1990, Carol and I adopted two boys from Romania, Peter (4) and Bobby (2), and started the Family.  In 2002 the entire work force was riffed so I took early retirement.  Smart.  Now I am currently semi-retired and work 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, at CVS as a shift Supervisor.  Guess where?  At Yorktown Plaza.  Can you believe it?

HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE AT THE REUNION.
