In a telephone conversation today with Terry’s sister Tamra, she told me that Terry was diagnosed in December 1998 with a brain tumor. He had been working at the Pentagon, and when he did not show up for work for two days, a friend checked at his home to find that he had suffered a massive stroke, and had been unable to call for help. He was subsequently diagnosed with a Glioblastoma. Tamra traveled from the west coast to Virginia to help care for Terry during the next 18 months until his death in June 2000. During this time Tamra says there were many treasured moments in helping Terry realize his “bucket list” of wishes. Among them was a reunion with his former wife, Susan, which according to Tamra “healed his heart”. He was able to say good-bye to the ocean during a last trip to the beach, and have time with his friends. He passed away under the garden gazebo at Northern Virginia Hospice only a few days after his 52nd birthday. The gazebo was a special place for Terry, and Tamra says he rang the garden chimes as he left. Obituary follows.
